Planting trees and getting reforestation right

Reforestastion in order to bring back something similar to native forest, and to draw down carbon dioxide levers, is actually rather tricky. You can't plant a monosystem of, say, pine tries, especially if they are not native.

One cool approach is to take acorns from an anchient native oak tree as one of 27+ natives in a reforestation areas. Check out this detailed article on BBC, 1,000-year-old oaks used to create 'super forest', by Hellen Briggs.

BBC News - The goats fighting America's plant invasion

BBC News - The goats fighting America's plant invasion:

A different approach to invasives. That would be Kudzu. I wonder how it works with balsam pear in Florida? How about the melaleuca?

Old school, but an effective approach to attach invasive plants is the old goat trick.

What I didn't realize before reading this article, is that the double chew and strong processing of the stomach reduce the changes of seed making the passage through the digestive system (and coming out carefully planted and fully fertilized).

First heard about the herd from NR.

How Wolves change Rivers.

When They Brought These Wolves Into The Park, They Had No Idea This Would Happen

 YouTube Video.

When the government reintroduced Wolves back into the Yellow Stone area (National Park) they had no idea how it would work.

This is one of the most enlightening videos you will ever see related to biodiversity and good/natural/sustainable ecosystems. In this case, this is recreating a more sustainable ecosystem from the past...

... But we as a people have devoted our existence, to date, of changing the ecosystems were we live and operate. The costs of doing so, are great!:-(
